Anonymous tip leads to major arrest
On March 22, 2021, agents of the Cherokee Multi-Agency Narcotics Squad (CMANS) culminated a four-month investigation of drug trafficking in south Cherokee County.
In November of 2020, CMANS Agents received an anonymous tip indicating Tony Cannady was engaged in the sale of heroin in the Woodstock area. Agents learned through investigation and surveillance that Mr. Cannady was involved in a drug distribution ring stretching from Woodstock to Kentucky and South Carolina, and dealing in heroin, methamphetamine, and cocaine.
On Monday, March 22, CMANS Agents observed what was believed to be a drug interaction involving Mr. Cannady. Agents, along with Woodstock Police Officers conducted a traffic stop of Mr. Cannady at Highway 92 and Parkway 575.
Based on their investigation, Agents conducted searches at the Hampton Inn and the In-Town Suites, in Woodstock, where Mr. Cannady had rooms rented. Agents discovered guns and heroin, methamphetamine, cocaine, crack cocaine, MDMA, marijuana and what are believed to be counterfeit opioid tablets in the motel rooms. In total Agents seized 8.2 ounces of heroin, 2.65 kilograms of methamphetamine, 2.29 ounces of cocaine, 1.1 ounces of crack cocaine, 1.07 ounces of MDMA, along with marijuana and pills.
Those arrested on March 22 included:
Mr. Tony Cannady - 52 - charged with two counts of trafficking methamphetamine, two counts of trafficking heroin, two counts of trafficking cocaine, three counts of possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, and possession with intent of Schedule I, II, III, and IV controlled substances.
Ms. Lexxus Tiara Nicole Cannady - 19- charged with two counts of trafficking heroin, and Crossing the Guard Line.
Ms. Veronica Quarrels-44- charged with two counts of trafficking methamphetamine, two counts of trafficking heroin, two counts of trafficking cocaine, three counts of possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, and possession with intent of Schedule I, II, III, and IV controlled substances.
Agents will continue to work with investigators throughout the southeast to unravel this complex network.
The Cherokee Multi-Agency Narcotics Squad is a joint task force working in Cherokee County and Pickens County to investigate drug related violations. Participating agencies include the Cherokee Sheriff’s Office, the Pickens Sheriff’s Office, the Canton Police Department, the Woodstock Police Department, the Holly Springs Police Department, the Ball Ground Police Department, the Cherokee County Marshal’s Office, the Cherokee School District Police Department, the District Attorney’s Office for the Blue Ridge Judicial Circuit, the District Attorney’s Office for the Appalachian Judicial Circuit, and the Georgia State Patrol.
